It's been a couple of years since Chris Young celebrated a chart-topping single, but last Monday in Nashville, he made up for lost time. Chris, welcomed the three songwriters of “Who I Am With You”, Marv Green, Jason Sellers and Paul Jenkins as the quartet was honored with various plaques, trophies and medals to commemorate the success of their latest single.

As party-goers enjoyed a fun display of snacks arranged in plastic beach buckets, CMA headquarters quickly filled up with a who’s who of the Nashville songwriting world, including Rhett Akins, J.T. Harding, Deric Ruttan and Tim Nichols.

After the awards were presented, each songwriter took his turn to thank everyone who helped the song reach the top. Chris also took time to reflect on the song’s life and some lessons he’s learned about the music business and life in general during his career.

This is pretty amazing,” said an emotional Chris to his friends filling the room. “I’ve learned a lot of things over the past four years. . . . don’t try to catch a knife if you knock it off the counter, and cut great songs! I feel so, so blessed that I got the chance to cut this one. It’s been so much fun to watch this song go up the charts. Everybody in this room right now and on this stage has helped this song in some way. It’s been a couple of years since I've actually had a No. 1. I’ve been really lucky to have some Top 5s, but it’s a really great feeling to be up here on this stage.”

The day was extra special for Chris, who had a very special young lady in attendance: his niece, Rebecca. “This is the first one of these that she’s been to because she wasn’t alive for my last one,” said the proud uncle as he grinned and waved to her in the back of the room."

Who I Am With You” marks the sixth chart-topper for Chris, Marv Green and Jason Sellers, while Paul Jenkins has five.
