1996 The King Goes Platonium
George Strait saw seven albums achieve platinum or multi-platinum status. George’s Greatest Hits Volume 2 went triple platinum while Ocean Front Property went double platinum and his albums #7, Something Special, Ten Strait Hits and Holding My Own were all certified platinum.
Strait has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling artists of all time. His certifications from the RIAA include 13 multi-platinum, 33 platinum, and 38 gold albums. His best-selling album is 1992's Pure Country, which sold 6 million copies. His highest certified album is his 1995 box set Strait Out of the Box, which sold 2 million copies, but is certified 8× Platinum due to being a box set with four CDs. According to the RIAA, Strait is the 12th best-selling album recording artist in the United States overall.
2009
Fire destroyed the Little Nashville Opry in Indiana. Later ruled arson, the blaze eliminated concert dates for Marty Stuart, Sawyer Brown, Ronnie McDowell and Andy Griggs.
2007
Brooks & Dunn nab a platinum album for "The Greatest Hits Collection II." The collection featured singles released between 1998 & 2003 and three new songs: "That's What It's All About", "It's Getting Better All The Time", and "Independent Trucker." The first two were released as singles with "That's What Its All About" reaching #2 and "Its Getting Better All The Time" making it to #1.

Grand Ole Opry member Skeeter Davis died in Nashville. Born Mary Frances Penick, Davis was probably best know for her pop hit "End Of The World" but got her start as a country singer as a part of the Davis Sister, a country trio in the late 1940'ss.

Martina McBride announced she’d donate $50,000 from sales of her Greatest Hits album in the first 30 days to victims of the September 11 attacks.
1998
Eddie Rabbitt, Kent Robbins ("Straight Tequila Night") and Merle Kilgore ("Ring Of Fire") are inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame during ceremonies at the Loews Vanderbilt Plaza Hotel in Nashville.
1997
Trace Adkins’ album Dreamin’ Out Loud was certified platinum. Hits included "I Left Something Turned On At Home", "Every Light In The House" and "There’s A Girl In Texas."
1996
Vince Gill’s album I Still Believe In You was certified quadruple platinum. It included features the singles "I Still Believe in You" (Gill's first Number One country hit), "Don't Let Our Love Start Slippin' Away", "No Future in the Past," "One More Last Chance" and "Tryin' to Get Over You."
Patsy Cline’s Greatest Hits album was certified multi-platinum for sales of 7 million copies. The album hits from Cline released between 1957 and 1963, including "I Fall To Pieces" and "She's Got You."
The album has sold over 10 million copies to date.
