America didn’t learn about the Band Perry until late 2009, but the sibling trio will be celebrating their 14th year together this October. Neil and Reid Perry started off backing up their older sister Kimberly before she let them join the band officially. Jump forward to 2012, where you’ll find that the 2011 CMA New Artist of the Year is the hottest thing in Nashville, having just notched a fourth straight Top 10 hit from their self-titled debut album.
It’s already been a great year for Jake Owen, but it just got a lot better. The country singer has announced that his wife Lacey Buchanan Owen is pregnant with the couple’s first child. The couple is expecting a little girl to arrive this November.
Longtime duet partners Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn are on the same ballot for induction into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Both are nominated in the Songwriter/Artists category, but only one can be inducted. There’s no guarantee either will be picked, however.
With singles from his new album ‘Back in the Saddle,’ Chris Cagle is successfully reinventing himself as a country bad boy. ‘Let There Be Cowgirls’ picks up the loud and rowdy that dropped ‘Got My Country On’ in the Top 20. The spirit of this rock-country jam gets one past a clunky melody.
Katie Armiger could be accused of borrowing liberally from the Pistol Annies‘ stylebook if her new song didn’t fit the 21-year-old so well. Through the years, Armiger has gone from portraying a sweet and innocent teenager to a woman with ideas and a wild side. ‘Better in a Black Dress’ is a big step forward in the introduction of the Sugar Land, Texas-born singer.
The country music went world wide in June 2012. Stars tweeted from all over, including during trips to London, Australia and from the audience of the CMT Music Awards in Nashville. They serve drinks at that awards show, which led to more than a few funny tweets. Two of those made the Top Tweets of June 2012 list.
Susanna Clark, wife of Guy Clark and longtime friend to Nashville singers and songwriters, died this week at age 73. As a songwriter, Clark is best know for the Emmylou Harris hit ‘Easy From Now On.’ She was also a talented painter, with the cover of Willlie Nelson‘s 1978 ‘Stardust’ album amongst her more famous works.
Eric Church has chosen what could one day be his encore song as the fourth single from ‘Chief.’ ‘Creepin” isn’t the best song on the album — it may not even be in the Top 3. However, it’s the project’s loudest, most rock and roll moment — one that would send fans home in a dizzying fit of distorted euphoria.
A footnote to November 2011 articles pertaining to Tim McGraw‘s supposed victory in a lawsuit against Curb Records indicated that while the singer was free to sign another recording contract, proceedings would continue in July 2012 to determine if the singer owed his former label damages. According to a press release on behalf of Curb, a Nashville court ruled on the matter today (June 28), deciding McGraw still owes his former label an album.
