Billy Currington and one of his band members were both hospitalized after a terrifying stage accident at a music festival in 2009 that killed one person.

Currington and his band were performing at the Big Valley Jamboree in Camrose, Alberta, on Aug. 1, 2009, when severe storms caused the stage to collapse. The singer's bass player, Alex Stevens, was trapped under debris for half an hour and had to undergo emergency surgery to repair damage to his arm before he could even fly back to Nashville, while Currington was hospitalized after suffering a concussion.

He later posted a picture of himself with a gruesome black eye to Twitter, writing, "The boys and I are very grateful to be home and for life itself. We thank you for your prayers and concern and will see you on the road again soon." (Quote via People).

Country Stars Who Have Suffered Tragedy

Nearly 75 people sustained injuries during the stage collapse, and Donna Moore of Lloydminster, Alberta, died in the accident.

"My heart goes out to the family of Donna Moore who was killed and all of the other fans who were hurt on Saturday," Currington said in a statement issued as he recovered from his own injuries at his Nashville home.

Currington's then-current single, "People Are Crazy," sat at No. 1 at the time the stage collapse took place. The song gave him his third No. 1 hit. He recently scored his twelfth career No. 1 hit with "Do I Make You Wanna," the third single from his Summer Forever album.
