Critically acclaimed country singer-songwriter Brandy Clark has released the music video for “Girl Next Door,” the first single from her forthcoming album, Big Day in a Small Town.

"Girl Next Door" is a snarky sendup of archaic gender roles, and its video's aesthetic follows closely with that storyline, featuring a June Cleaver-inspired marionette housewife controlled by an unseen puppeteer. The clip is a collaboration between Clark and directors Tracie Gouldie and Shane Tarleton.

“I loved working with [Gouldie and Tarleton] on the video for "Girl Next Door,"" Clark says. “This song is about someone wanting you for one thing and then wishing you were completely different. Their vision was exactly what the song needed, and I’m really excited to share it with everyone.”

In the music video, Clark portrays the housewife’s bad girl alter-ego, dressed in a country-chic fringe jacket. When she sings, “If you want the girl next door / Some Virgin Mary metaphor,” she’s draped in white cloth, her dark hair and thick black eyeliner serving as the perfect contrast. Big Day in a Small Town, Clark's sophomore album, is set for release on June 10. The disc is the follow-up project to her critically acclaimed debut record, 12 Stories, which earned two Grammy nods. Produced by Jay Joyce, Big Day in a Small Town features "Girl Next Door" and 10 additional tracks; Clark tapped fellow Nashville songwriters Shane McAnally, Lori McKenna, Luke Laird and more to help pen the songs.
