Burger King Heats Up the Fast Food Competition with Bigger and Fatter Fries
The competition in the french fry market has gotten fierce between Burger King, McDonalds and the other fry-serving fast food joints. Mickey Ds’ traditionally grabs the top spot when it comes to favorite fries, but Wendy’s took a run at it with new “natural cut” fries seasoned with sea salt.
Now, Burger King is taking it up a notch by making its fries bigger.
If you like a chunky fry, you’re in luck. The new Burger King fries will be thicker and have an added coating that makes them stay hotter longer. “We’re always trying to have the best menu possible. French fries are a big seller for us and we want to make sure we’re always improving,” said Leo Leon, Burger King’s vice president of innovation.
Even though the new fries are thicker, they have 20 percent less sodium than the old recipe and are cooked in trans fat-free vegetable oil. They contain no animal products and a small portion is 240 calories, according to Burger King.
New Burger King fries hit the fryers on December 5 and the restaurant will be giving away the dollar size portions for free on December 16 to promote the new recipe.
