Carrie Underwood performed her brand-new single "Church Bells" Sunday night (April 3) at the 2016 ACM Awards. And if you didn't know beforehand that the song culminates in a murder, Underwood's performance made it pretty clear.

Underwood rocked the song, set against a massive industrial, post-apocalyptic set, all blacks and silvers with cemetery gates projected in the background. Underwood stole her own set, briefly taking over drum duty from what looked to be Stomp performers in zombie makeup.

Underwood shared on her Facebook page that she chose the song as her latest single in part because of fans' love for it.

"Church Bells", which Underwood has described as a "little sister" to Reba McEntire's "Fancy", is a story song that follows a woman named Jenny as she marries a rich man, quickly discovers him to be an abusive drunk and then takes matters (and the law) into her own hands. As Underwood sings: "Jenny slipped something in his Tennessee whiskey / no law man was ever gonna find / And how he died is still a mystery / But he hit a woman for the very last time."

"Church Bells" was produced by Mark Bright and written by Zach Crowell, Brett James and Hillary Lindsay. It will officially hit country radio on April 11.
