Carrie Underwood is giving back to military families.

During a recent tour stop in St. Louis, the singer met a couple before her show and gave them the surprise of a lifetime when she invited them to come to New York this November to watch her perform on the Carnival Vista cruise ship.

“It seemed such a great opportunity to say ‘thank you,’” Underwood tells Fox. “I'm lucky to be a part of country music and country music has always done a good job of honoring our military.”

The couple, Theresa and Mario Jones, are both veterans and met while in the military. A car accident left Mario medically retired, and the couple and their three children reached out to Operation Homefront for help as they were having a difficult time financially, living paycheck to paycheck.

“They've done so much for us. They helped turn our life around,” Mario says. “It's so many people giving back and it feels amazing.”

Operation Homefront is a nonprofit organization that helps struggling military families. The nonprofit recently partnered with Carnival Cruise Lines and Underwood, who is making time to meet with military families throughout 10 stops on her Storyteller Tour.

“Military families represent a cornerstone of our country and we are honored by the opportunity to partner with Carrie and Operation Homefront to bring much needed awareness and aid to our troops and their loved ones,” explains Christine Duffy, President of Carnival Cruise Line at a press event. “The partnership will bring to life many of the heartwarming stories our troops have to share while in turn bringing them some fun along the way.”

In support of Carnival’s ‘Honor. Family. Fun.’ program, Underwood will host a concert to honor military families on Nov. 4 in the Port of New York City aboard the new cruise ship Carnival Vista. She will also perform aboard select Carnival ships in 2017. For more information and to donate to the program, visit Carnival.com.
