Yes, Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson are the two best-known singers from American Idol, but that doesn't mean they're in competition with each other. In an exchange of tweets on Saturday (April 7), the superstars made it clear that they have nothing but the deepest respect for one another.

Clarkson was the first-ever winner of American Idol in 2002, and the show helped launch her into a stratospheric career as a pop singer. She has also experimented with other genres, including country, in the process becoming one of the most beloved and best-selling singers of her generation.

Underwood won the fourth season of American Idol in 2005, becoming the first strictly country singer to do so. She has become a media staple not only as a singer, but over a decade of co-hosting the CMA Awards with Brad Paisley. Underwood also bears the distinction of being the best-selling artist to graduate Idol, and in a new poll, entertainment website the Tylt asked readers to choose between Clarkson and Underwood as the most iconic American Idol winner ever.

When Clarkson caught wind of the poll, she turned to social media to share her thoughts on the matter, then asked Underwood to chime in.

It wasn't long before Underwood did exactly that, saying that Clarkson had her vote. She added that she wished publications wouldn't frame competitions in quite that way.

Talk about a mutual admiration society! For what it's worth, Underwood currently leads Clarkson in the Tylt's poll ... not that either one of them appears to be losing much sleep over it.
