Carrie Underwood’s ‘Storyteller’ Wins Album of the Year in 2016 Golden Boot Awards
Following the release of her newest album, Storyteller, Carrie Underwood made history as the only artist in the 51-year history of Billboard‘s Top Country Albums chart to have all of her first six albums debut at No. 1 on the chart. Fans were excited about the album then, and they're still excited about it now: The Boot's readers voted Underwood's project Album of the Year in the 2016 Golden Boot Awards.
Storyteller made its debut on Oct. 23, but Underwood first announced the record in a Facebook chat in late August. The album is Underwood’s first since December 2014’s Greatest Hits: Decade #1, and her first album of completely new material since 2012’s Blown Away. Fans were eager to hear it: Storyteller gave Underwood the highest-selling debut week by a female country artist in the past year (besting herself; Greatest Hits had the next-highest-selling debut week of the last year).
Underwood's latest album features 13 songs, plus two Target-exclusive bonus tracks, including singles “Smoke Break,” “Heartbeat” and "Church Bells." Underwood co-wrote six of the disc's tunes; the project was produced by Mark Bright, Zach Crowell and Jay Joyce.
With almost 40 percent of votes, Underwood's Storyteller topped albums by Kacey Musgraves, Chris Stapleton, Eric Church, Thomas Rhett and Joey + Rory to win Album of the Year.
