Castro, ‘Automatic’ [Exclusive Premiere]

Castro, comprised of American Idol finalist Jason Castro and his two younger siblings, Jackie and Michael, are debuting a brand-new song, "Automatic," exclusively on The Boot.

Fans fell in love with Jason Castro during his time on Season 7 of Idol; he ultimately placed fourth in the competition, but his musical talents (including his ukulele abilities), as well as his dreadlocks, made him stand out in the sea of contestants. One listen to "Automatic," and you'll quickly realize that musical abilities run in the Castro family. The Castros' vocals meld so effortlessly, yet each of them possesses a unique, solo-worthy voice.

"Automatic," from Castro's forthcoming EP, Diamond Dreams, is a tribute to love -- a very special kind of love.

""Automatic" is a song about falling into a crazy, beautiful, instant, life-changing, magical kind of love that you can't explain," the band tells The Boot. "It's about finding that person that makes your soul sing and brings you to life."

The Castros add, "We knew this song was special from the very beginning. We wrote the chorus and, about a year later, sat back down together to finish something we couldn't get out of our heads. We hope people fall in love with "Automatic" the way we did.”

The song, while simple, packs a punch with its lyrical imagery: "I was lost at sea / You were an island / Like gravity / You were pulling me ashore / I was a refugee / You were asylum / You sheltered me / And now I call you home," Jackie Castro sings in the first verse. The chorus of "Automatic," meanwhile, describes the love in details: "Automatic / More than I ever imagined / And I'm stuck to you like static / Loving you is automatic / Just like magic / A mystery, and I can't grab it / Everything I want, you have it / Loving you is automatic."

Castro's Diamond Dreams EP was recorded at Blackbird Studio in Nashville and produced by Charlie Peacock (the Civil Wars). The band co-wrote all seven songs on the offering, which will be available for pre-order on Friday (July 15). According to Jason Castro, the trio's direction -- in line with the folk / Americana stylings of acts such as Of Monsters & Men and the Lumineers -- is the style of music that he wishes he was allowed to make at the beginning of his career after Idol.
