Today's catch of the day comes from a legendary country artist who is known for his love of God and Country, the Chief Officer of Nippit Records and a singer who has been compared to Hank Williams.

Aaron Tippin walked away from a career as a commercial airline pilot in 1986 to become a contestant on The Nashville Network's You Can Be a Star talent, landing a song publishing contract in 1987. During this time he wrote songs for The Kingsmen, David Ball, Mark Collie, and Charley Pride. Soon after he signed with Starstruck Entertainment agency division, joining Linda Davis and others.

Tippin signed with RCA Records in 1991. After years of playing in honky-tonks and local bars in the Nashville, the big pay-off came with the debut of his first single, "You Have To Stand For Something" in 1991. The single peaked at #6 on the Billboard Country chart, but Tippin was off and running. As the title track of his 1991 debut album, the strength of the single took Tippin's album gold, as two other singles from the album. "I Wonder How Far It Is Over You" and "She Made a Memory Out of Me".

Tippin reached number one for the first time with the lead single from his second album, 1992's Read Between The Lines. "There Ain't Noting' Wrong With The Radio" lasted at the top spot for three weeks, with two other singles from the album, "I Wouldn't Have Done It Any Other Way" and "My Blue Angel" peaking at #5 and #7 respectively. A fourth single from the album, "I Was Born With A Broken Heart" stalling at #37. The album became Tippin's first (and to this date only) platinum certification.

Tippin would release two more albums in the next two years; 1993's Call of The Wild, and 1994's Lookin' Back At Myself, with neither album producing a top-10 hit. A fifth-album in five years, 1995's Tool Box, produced Tippin's second #1 single, "That's As Close As I'll Get To Loving You", but failed to produce another top-20 single. A final album, 1996's Greatest Hits...And Then Some produced two singles, but neither could crack the top 40. Tippin would leave RCA in 1998, moving to Lyric Street records.

Tippin would follow his familiar pattern at Lyric Street, with his first album for the company producing the #6 hit "For You I Would", but the next three singles from the album peaking outside the top-10. His second album For Lyric Street, 2000's People Like Us produced Tippin's third and final #1 (to date) "Kiss This". The album produced two more singles, both failing to make the top-20.

In the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks, Tippin released the patriotic-themed song "Where the Stars and Stripes and the Eagle Fly", his biggest crossover hit. The song reached No. 2 on the country charts and No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100, and was included on his album Stars & Stripes, released in early 2002. Stars & Stripes produced three more singles, again all faltering outside the top-20. Tippin's last release for Lyric Street was a single entitled "Come Friday", which was slated to be included on an album entitled I Believed. The single peaked at No. 42 on the country charts, and I Believed was not released; by 2005, he had exited Lyric Street.

Tippin has since formed his own label, Nippit Records in 2006, and then signed with Country Crossing Records in 2008. He released one album, Aaron Tippin: Now & Then for his own label in 2007 and one for Country Crossing, In Overdrive in 2009. In 2013, he signed with Big Hit Records, releasing All In the Same Boat with Joe Diffie and Sammy Kershaw.

Tippin's latest album, Aaron Tippin 25, released in March, has once again been released on his own label. The first single off of the album is in our spotlight today. Aaron Tippen and "God's Not Through With Me Yet" is our Catch of the Day, new music you haven't heard, but you'll want to hear it again.
