Today we feature an artist, born and raised in Amarillo, TX, who has been a mainstay on the Texas charts and who is finally starting to get a foothold in Nashville. An artist who's latest album, The Underdog, made history when it debuted at #1 in February of 2015.

Aaron Watson is definitely an underdog in the music industry. He released his debut, self-titled album in 1999 after gigging around Texas for a few years. This project, along with his next six albums all released on the small, Texas label Sonnet Records and received little or no attention for the country music world. His fourth album, 2004's The Honky Tonk Kid, did raise a few eyebrows; produced by Asleep At The Wheel's Ray Benson, featured an appearance from Willie Nelson.

Watson finally charted with his 2006 album San Angelo, which peaked at#60. After

releasing one more album with the label, a gospel themed project, 2007's Barbed Wire Halo, Watson decided to take charge of his own future, starting his own independent record label, Big Label Records.

His first album on the self-imprint label was the first-step he had been looking for on both the Texas Music and Billboard's Country Album charts. The album, Angels & Outlaws, peaked at #28 on the album chart and the lead single, "Hearts Are Breaking Across Texas" hit #1 on the Texas Music chart. Two more singles, "Love Makin' Song" and "Rollercoaster Ride" both hit the Texas top-10. Watson returned to the studio, but in order to take the time he felt he needed to work on his next album, he released the live album/dvd Deep In The Heart of Texas: Aaron Watson Live in 2009, which peaked at #47 on the Billboard Country Albums Chart.

Watson returned in 2010, releasing The Road & The Radio, which struggled to find success on the Country Singles chart, but placed 5 singles on the Texas charts and

continued his march up the country albums chart, peaking at #25. His next breakthrough came in 2012 with the release of Real Good Time, which became Watson's first top-10 album, peaking at #9. The album produced four more Texas top-10's.

2015's album The Underdog made Watson a household name. When it was released on February 17th, Watson became the first independent, self-produced artist in the Billboard Country Albums chart's history to debut an album at #1;  the album also hit #1 on the Billboard Indy Albums chart. The lead single, That Look, a song Watson

wrote for his wife Kimberly debut at #10 on the Billboard Country Digital Downloads chart and would go on the become the best selling independent single in that chart's history. It would also become the highest charting single for Watson on Country Singles Chart, peaking at #47.

Watson is back in the studio working on as yet untitled project, and today we turn our spotlight on the first single from that project. Aaron Watson and "Outta Style" is today's Catch of the Day, new music you haven't heard, but you'll wanna hear it again.
