Today's artist was born and raised in Ada, OK, a fact he never fails to mention to contestants who hale from The Sooner State on the television show The Voice.

Blake Shelton began singing at the age of 12, learning to play guitar soon after that; by age 15 he began song writing. Knowing early on where his future was, after graduating high school at the age of 17 Shelton moved to Nashville and got a job at a music publishing company where he met legendary song writer Bobby Braddock. Braddock helped the young singer/songwriter secure a production contract with Sony Music.

The experience with Sony failed to produce a recording contract, so after 8 years in Nashville, playing at local venues and clubs while working his "day job", Shelton finally landed a recording contract with Giant Records, a division of Warner Brothers Records. Blake immediately went to work on his debut album, originally intending to release the song "I Wanna Talk About Me" as his debut single.

But management of Giant felt the song wasn't right as a debut single, instead deciding to release "Austin" as Shelton's debut single. The decision was a good one as "Austin" went on to spend 5 weeks at #1, while Toby Keith would end up recording "I Wanna Talk About Me" taking it to #1 as well.

Shelton has released a total of 8 studio albums, all of which have been certified gold or better by the Recording Industry Association of America, as have 2 of his 4 compilation albums. The albums have produced 31 singles, of which 26 have made the top-10, He has landed 21 #1 hits, and, starting with 2009's "Hillbilly Bone" with Trace Adkins he has a current streak of 16 consecutive #1 hits. With the 2014 single "Doin' What She Likes", Shelton passed the previous record of 10 consecutive set by Brad Paisley from 2005 to 2009.

With a new album on the way, Shelton is looking to extend his #1 hit streak. The first single from that album is definitely making a lot of noise in Nashville, and it is in our spotlight today. Blake Shelton and the lead single from If I'm Honest, "Came Here To Forget" is today's Catch of the Day, new music you haven't heard, but you'll want to hear it again.
