Today we turn our focus to a performer who is no stranger to the spotlight. Whether it's TV, movies, commercial endorsements, hosting radio programs or his day job, making #1 hits, he is more than just a household name, he is an artist that can be recognized by just one name.

Blake Shelton's journey from Ada, Oklahoma to Hollywood wasn't always a straight line. The son of a used car salesman and a beautician, Shelton began singing at an early age and at age 12 he learned to play guitar and his days as a performer were just beginning. At 16 Shelton won a regional award given to young songwriters and performers, the Denbo Diamond Award. By 17, after playing the Oklahoma bar circuit, Shelton felt he was ready to seek his fame and fortune, so after his high school graduation, he packed his bags and headed to Nashville.

When he got to Nashville, worked construction, as a house painter and sold a few of the songs he had written to a publishing house. He was eventually hired as a house writer, where he met the legendary song writer Bobby Braddock ("D-I-V-O-R-C-E", "He Stopped Loving Her Today", "Texas Tornado", "People Are Crazy"), who helped the young Okie land a production contract with Sony Music. Though nothing came from the process, Shelton defined his style, eventually landing at Giant Records in 2001. The first song pitched to him by Giant was "I Wanna Talk About Me", but after several attempts were made with the song, it was agreed that it wasn't right for him. The song was then pitched to another Oklahoma singer, Toby Keith, who recorded what would go on to be a #1 hit for him.

The second song pitched to Shelton as the lead single for his debut album and "Austin" worked out a little better. Shelton recorded the song, but soon after its release, Giant Records was closed and Blake's contract was transferred to Giant's parent company Warner Brothers, and Shelton would spend 5 weeks at #1 with the single. Shelton would go back into the studio with Braddock as his producer, and Shelton's self-titled debut album would be the result. The album featured the top-20 hits "All Over Me", which the singer co-wrote with Earl Thomas Conley, and "Ol' Red". Though "Ol' Red" was not a major chart success, peaking at #14, Shelton considers it a "signature song" and a favorite in concert.

After 9 studio albums, 3 EPs, 4 complilation albums and 22 number 1 singles under his belt, Shelton is stretching his wings and branching out into other areas of the entertainment industry. Besides his seat as a coach on the hit TV series The Voice, Shelton has secured TV guest roles (Malibu Country, Saturday Night Live), award show host, roles in movies (Pitch Perfect 2, The Angry Birds Movie, The Rediculous 6) and as a commercial spokesperson for Pizza Hut and Gildan underwear.

His most recent album, If I'm Honest, has already produced a number one single, Shelton's 17th consecutive #1. He is looking to stretch the streak with the second release from the album, a single we have in our spotlight today. Blake Shelton and "She's Got A Way With Words" is today's Catch of the Day, new music you haven't heard, but you'll want to hear it again.
