Today the spotlight falls on a singer/songwriter who still takes the songwriter part very seriously. He wrote 11 of the 12 song on his most recent album, and has penned hit songs for Jason Aldean and Colt Ford.

Born and raised in Jefferson, Georgia, Brantley Gilbert moved to Nashville in 2005, singing with Warner Chappell Publishing almost immediately. While writing songs for other artists, he continued to play small venues around the Nashville area. He signed with Average Joe's Entertainment, Colt Ford's label, in 2009. In 2010, he released his debut album, Modern Day Prodigal Son in 2010, but did not release a single from the album.

Gilbert began to make some headway with the release of his second album, Halfway to Heaven. Originally released by Average Joe's, the album was released as a deluxe edition when Gilbert signed with Valory Records in 2011. The album featured 3 charted singles, "Country Must Be Country Wide", "You Don't Know Her Like I Do", a re-release of "Kick It In The Sticks", originally the album's lead single, but it failed to chart while promoted by Average Joe's and "More Than Miles". "Country Must Be..." and "You Don't Know Her..." both climbed to #1 while "Kick It..." stalled at #34; "More..." peaked at #7. The album has been certified Platinum by the RIAA.

Gilbert's third album, Just As I Am, was released by Valory in 2014 and features a pair of #1 hits, "Bottoms Up" and "One Hell of an Amen" as well as the #8 single "Small Town Throwdown" (with Thomas Rhett and Justin Moore). The album has been certified gold, and is on the preciface of being certified as his second platinum album. Just as I Am was re-released in May as a Platinum Edition.

The fourth single from the album is in our spotlight today. Added for the re-release of the album, Brantley Gilbert and "Stone Cold Sober" is today's Catch of the Day; new music you haven't heard, but you'll want to hear it again.
