Today’s catch of the day comes from an artist that started out in punk rock, but found her niche in country music when she was a performer on The Voice, and with a recent number 1 hit, is doing quite nicely, thank you.

Already an established artist as the lead singer of the pop/punk band Hey Monday, in 2012, Cassadee Pope decided it was time for a change and she becaome a contestant on the 3rd season of The Voice. Pope, who had already released a studio album and three EP’s with the band, put it on hiatus to compete on the reality program, shifting styles when Blake Shelton took her under his wing; it was a good choice for Pope.

Pope was named the winner of season 3 in December of 2012 and signed with Repubic Records Nashville in January of 2013. On May 31stst, her first single, “Wasting All These Tears“, debuted at #34 on the Billboard Country chart, selling over 125,000 copies in its first week. The song peaked at #5 on the chart, and was the lead for Pope’s debut album, Frame By Frame, which was released later that year, debuting at #1 on the Country Albums chart. The albums second single “I Wish I Could Break Your Heart” failed to crack the top-30, peaking at #34. Pope spent 2014 and 2015 touring with Tim McGraw and Dierks Bentley.

Pope would soon sign with Republic Records Nashville, and her debut country album, Frame By Frame, was released in October of 2013, meeting with immediate success, debuting at #1 on the country albums chart and #9 on the Billboard Hot 200 albums chart. Her first single, “Wasted All These Tears” climbed to #5 on Billboard’s Country Singles chart, and sold over a million copies. At the time, this made her the highest charting debuting female solo act since Carrie Underwood hit #1 in 2005 with “Jesus Take The Wheel“. To date, the album has sold nearly 250,000 copies. In 2015 she was asked to work with fellow country singer and singing competition winner Chris Young on a duet called "Think Of You", for his album I'm Coming Over. The song would eventually become Young's seventh #1 hit. But more importantly for Cassadee, it would be the first time at the top of the Country chart. You know she'll be performing that #1 hit, along with her new music out just in time for summer on Saturday, June 26th, when she joins David Nail, Charles Esten and Clare Bowen for the annual Ft. Sill Summer Concert. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 on the day of the show and are currently on sail at all area EZ Go locations, at both locations of Adventure Travel, and online at Ft. Sill MWR's concert site.

Pope has been back in the studio, working on some new music for summer, and the lead single and title track from her forthcming EP is in our spotlight today. The perfect Memorial Day summer kick-off song, Cassadee Pope and “Summer” is today’s Catch of the Day, new music you haven’t heard, but you’ll want to hear it again.
