Today we focus on a Tennessee native, an artist who first came to our attention on a singing contest, and who has surpassed all but 2 artists who came to country music through television reality programs.

While many idolize him, he was never an Idol; while he is an incredible singer, he was never a Voice. And when we talk about singing programs, few people remember the program that gave country music Buddy Jewel, Miranda Lambert and today's artist, Chris Young. In 2006, season 4 of Nashville Star definitely lived up to its name, with Young emerging as the season champion.

Soon after being crowned champion, Young released his self-titled debut album. It debuted at #3 on the Billboard Country Albums chart. The album was not as successful when it came to singles, as both of the albums singles, "Drinkin' Me Lonely" and "You're Gonna Love Me", failed to crack the top-40.

In 2008, Young's third single, and lead single from his second album The Man I Want To Be, also failed to crack the top-40, and it was starting to look like he might become one of the many singing contest winners who faded into obscurity. But then, he caught lightening in a bottle.

The second single from the album "Gettin' You Home (The Black Dress Song)" shot to #1 on the country singles chart. The the album's title track and third single also went to the top. "Voices" was then re-released and IT went to #1 on the country chart. Two more singles, "Tomorrow" and "You", from Young's third album Neon also followed the path to #1. 5 more top-5 singles and 2 albums followed (including his most recent single, Young's 6th #1 single,"I'm Coming Over"), securing Young's position right behind Lambert and Carrie Underwood on the singing program alumni success list.

Today's spotlight falls on Young's latest single, the second from his latest album I'm Comin' Over, a song that was voted by Esquire magazine as one of the top-10 songs for the month of November. Young flexed his songwriting muscles, co-penning the tune with the Warren Brothers. Today's Catch of the Day is Chris Young, featuring Vince Gill and "Sober Saturday Night"; new music you haven't heard, but you'll want to hear it again.
