Today our Unsigned/Independent Artist Thursday focus is on an artist who was influenced by the outlaw movement of the 70's and who's traditionalist style is a tribute to the artists of that era.

Cody Joe Hodges style has been described as "outlaw country". He considers that tag an honor, as he was influenced early in life by artists like Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard. Cody started playing early in life, but it wasn't until he was a senior in high school that he began to take his music seriously.

After graduation, he attended Texas A&M, where he started focusing on songwriting. His first effort, "Daddy's Dream" was written his freshman year at A&M. After graduating in 2006, Cody Joe found his way to Nashville, where he found work at several local venues, which led to occasional opportunities to sit in with bands playing there. A short stay in Music City proved fruitless, so Hodges returned to College Station, TX and joined the Army.

While stationed at Ft. Carson in Colorado Springs, Co, Hodges was discovered playing on a street corner and was asked to audition for the Army's music group Harmony In Motion; Cody Joe's audition was a success and he was asked to join the group. He traveled with the group, playing military venues across the country, until his discharge in 2010. Upon returning home, he took a job working as a lineman for a power company, figuring if it could work for Glen Campbell, it would work for him. He continued he musical pursuit at the same time, forming a band with some college friends, calling the group Cody Hodges & The Linemen. The group would release one album, in 2012.

In 2013 Hodges decided to leave the power line business, putting all his efforts into a music career. His decision proved to be a wise one, as he was soon signed by Oklahoma based record label Tate Music Group in 2014, releasing his debut solo album The Good Stuff later that year. His debut single, "Getting Back To Country" peaked at #24 on the Texas Country Music Charts.

Today's spotlight is on the second single from The Good Stuff. Cody Lee Hodges and "One More Drink" is today's Unsigned/Indy Artist Thursday Catch of the Day; new music you haven't heard, but you'll want to hear it again.
