Its Thursday, and once again we are happy to present to our listeners the best unsigned or indy label recording artists that Nashville has to offer. And today we feature an artist who is not a complete stranger to country music fans, having appeared on the initial season of The Voice, making it to the program's quarterfinal round in 2011.

Before making his television debut in 2011, Curtis Grimes new what it meant to compete for his position in country music. While playing the bar circuit in and around Austin, TX, Grimes won a contest where the grand prize was the local opening slot on Kenny Chesney's Sun CIty Carnival tour in 2009. Grimes followed that opportunity by auditioning for a brand new television show, a competitor to American Idol. During the blind audition round on The Voice, Grimes turned the chair of only Cee Lo Green, but it was enough to make it on the program. The singer would stick around long enough to make the quarter final round, once again making the most of a small opportunity, lasting 8 weeks on the program.

Raised in Gilmer, TX, Grimes brings his small town, heart-of-Texas upbringing and work ethic to his music. Curtis grew up listening to George Strait and Alan Jackson, the undeniable base of his traditionalist sound and style. His first love was baseball, and he pitched his way through college and across the Lone Star State until hanging up his cleats and turning his attention to performing and song writing. Playing small venues across the state, he returned to Texas to perform in bigger venues.

Curtis has continued to take steps forward in his career, and with the release of his debut album, Bottom of the Fifth, Grimes is expanding his fan base nation wide; the lead single from Grimes' second album, Undeniably Country, is in our spotlight today. Curtis Grimes and "From Where I'm Standing" is our Unsigned/Indy Artist Thursday Catch of the Day, new music you haven't heard, but you're gonna wanna hear it again.
