‘Catch of the Day’ – Dan + Shay – “From The Ground Up” [VIDEO]

Today we feature a pair of singer/songwriters, one born and raised in Wexford, PA and the other was raised in Natural Dam, AR.

One attended Carnegie Mellon University to pursue a career in finance; the other began his music career immediately after graduating from high school, though he did attend Valley Forge Christian College for one year.

On the surface Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney seem like complete opposites. Smyers, from Pennsylvania and Mooney, from Arkansas, were headed down different career paths before meeting in Nashville in 2012. Smyers was signed as a solo act to Nappy Boy Entertainment, while Mooney was a member of the group Bonaventure on Floodgate Records. They originally came together to write songs, but when their very first song they wrote together was recorded by Rascal Flatts, Dan + Shay thought they just might have something together. Within months, the duo had multiple publishing offers, and eventually signed with Warner/Chappell Music.

Shay Mooney has been a frequent contributor to Rascal Flatts, co-writing two songs off of the group's latest album Rewind with pop-star Meghan Trainor, including the groups most recent single "I Like The Sound of That". In their "spare time" the duo compiled their debut album Where It All Began, featuring three top-20 hits, including "19 You and Me" which they co-wrote, and the duo's first number one hit "Nothin' Like You", which hit the top spot on the Billboard Country Airplay chart on December 5th, taking an unprecedented 28 weeks to hit the top of the charts.

While not touring with Blake Shelton's Ten Times Crazier and Hunter Hayes' 21 tours, as well as headlining their own Where It All Began tour in 2015, Dan + Shay have been hard at work in the studio, working on their second album, due out sometime early this year; the lead single from the untitled project is in our spotlight today.
