Catch of the Day – Darryl Ryan – “Not Enough Town” [AUDIO]

It's Thursday, and as is our tradition, today we feature one of the best unsigned and independent label artists that Nashville has to offer. Today's artist was raised in San Jose, CA, went to school in Texas and now calls Nashville home.

From San Jose, California, Darryl Ryan grew up playing football and basketball, but music was always a big part of his life. Finding time to practice while playing sports was another story, however, and ultimately he chose music over basketball, turning down offers to play in college. Shortly thereafter he had written his first song and the journey had begun. Soon he was playing in an established country music band traveling throughout California, starting out as an acoustic rhythm player and working his way to lead guitar and singer.

Inspired by country legends of the ’80s and ’90s, Darryl found his voice in country music and the realness of those songs. In powerful, emotive ballads, Darryl renders words and music that course a straight path from his own soul and dreams to those of the listener, and then arouse an energy and enthusiasm inside his listeners with

powerful, driven up-tempo boot-kickers.

It wasn’t long after that he knew he had to move to Nashville, but it wasn’t a straight line, as he went through Texas and Colorado along the way, playing local clubs throughout each state and while still managing to finish college. Eventually he made it to Nashville where he immersed himself in the music scene, honing his writing skills and playing in local clubs as well as playing lead guitar and fronting bands.

Currently on a radio tour to support his self-titled debut EP, Darryl stopped by the KLAW101 studios, to talk about the EP, his debut single and other songs on the project. We have that debut in our spotlight today, along with the full length interview from his visit.
