Today the focus is on an artist that has long stood by his classic sound, often covering songs from an era of country music that many believe has long been passed by in "modern" country music. An artist who released his debut album in 1995 and is still looking for that elusive first #1 hit.

Daryle Singletary moved to Nashville in 1990, with a traditional sound and an authenticity than turned heads and made people sit up and notice. Born and raised in Cairo Georgia, Singletary began singing in church on Sundays, singing gospel music with his brother and cousins. While in high school, Singletary took singing lessons and classes to train his voice. After graduation he took a job at a tractor dealership to support his music, and in 1990 he packed his bags and headed to Nashville to pursue the dream.

Singletary would makes the rounds in Nashville, playing at any venue anytime he got the chance. He often competed in open mic competitions, where he would often cross paths with other up and coming artists Tracy Lawrence and Tim McGraw. Singletary would find steady income as a demo singer, recording songs for writers to present to artists and record companies. One such recording, "Old Pair of Shoes" found it's way to Randy Travis, who not only decided to record the song, but he recommended Singletary to his management team and record label.

Soon after, Daryle was signed by Giant Records, releasing his self-titled debut album in 1995. The album produced the top-10 singles "I Let Her Lie" and "Too Much Fun", as well as two other singles. His 1996 follow-up album All Because of You sired Singletary's greatest chart success, the top-10 hit "Amen Kind of Love", which peaked at #2. The album produced two other singles, both failed to crack the top-50. His third album, 1998's Ain't It The Truth, failed to produced at top-30 hit and Singletary was dropped from the label.

Singletary has since recorded and released 4 albums on independent labels, with little chart success. The latest album, released in 2015, There's Still A Little Country Left, featured the lead single "Spilled Whiskey", which failed to chart. The second single from the album is in our spotlight today. Daryle Singletary and "We're Not Going To Hell For Having A Hell Of A Time" is today's Catch of the Day, new music you haven't heard, but you'll want to hear it again.
