Today we listen to the latest single from a band from North Carolina that was founded by singer Brittany Holljes and her brothers Ian and Eric, along with family friend Elizabeth Hopkins. A group that may just be the smartest in country music, containing two graduates of Duke University and a third who graduated from Cal State Berkley.

The name Delta Rae was chosen for the group to pay homage to the Holljes' mother, who wrote the story of a southern girl, Delta Rae, who summoned Greek gods to earth. The band began when the Holljes' teamed with friend Elizabeth Hopkins to form a quartet. The band made its debut in 2009, playing an event at Duke University, where Ian and Eric were both students. Ian graduated from the prestigious school in 2007 and Eric in 2009, while Brittany also graduated from college in 2009, graduating early from Cal State Berkley. The group added Grant Emerson and Mike McKee in 2010 and recorded their self-titled debut EP.

After releasing their debut independently in 2010, the group signed with Sire Records, a subsidiary label of Warner Bros. Records in 2012. Soon after signing with Sire, the band released its first full-length album, Carry The Fire. The single "Bottom of the River" received significant air play on VH-1, the band's first shot at national recognition.

Delta Rae followed the album up in 2013 with the EP Chasing Twisters, which included the single "If I Loved You", which featured an appearance by Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsay Buckingham, and supported the EP with a tour, as well as appearances on the 2013 and 2014 Lollapalooza tour and Farm Aid in 2014. The song peaked at #5 on the Billboard Alternative country chart and #43 on the rock chart. It is the group's only charting single to date.

The band released its second full-length album, After It All in 2015 and then in 2016 signed with Valory Music to release the 2017 EP A Long and Happy Life. We have the second single from the EP in our spotlight today.
