Today we feature an artist who was named the ACM Top New Artist of the Year and CMT Breakthrough Artist in 2004 and the CMA Horizon Award in 2005, and has definitely lived up to these awards trumpeting his arrival.

After graduating from Vanderbilt University in 2007, Dierks Bentley took a job as a researcher at The Nashville Network. His job was locating footage of older country performance for the video network. He burst onto the music scene in 2003 with his self-titled debut album, which was released just a few months after he was signed by Capitol Records. Bentley hit the ground running, with his debut single "What Was I Thinkin' " hitting #1 on the Billboard Country chart. The album peaked at #4 on the Albums chart and Bentley was off and running.

Bentley, who owns a private pilots license, followed off the successful debut with 6 more studio albums and a greatest hits compilation, all of which soared to #1 on the Album chart. Those albums have given rise to 19 top-10 hits, 13 of which have hit #1.

Growth has always been a theme as Dierks moves from one album to another. The growth experience that fueled his last album Riser, was the death of his father. He channeled the pain of the loss of the man who drove with him at age 19 as he headed to Nashville, into the mega-successful 2013 album, which produced 5 top-20 hits.

Bentley has been working on an eighth studio album, entitled Black, which isn't as ominous as it sounds. Bentley named the album after his wife Cassidy, whose maiden name is Black. Bentley recently announced his 2016 tour, which will correspond to the new album and feature Randy Houser and Cam as his opening acts.

Today the spotlight shines on the lead single from Black. Dierks Bentley and "Somewhere on A Beach" is today's Catch of the Day, new music you haven't heard, but you'll want to hear it again.
