A list of Dolly Parton‘s records and accomplishments in Country music would be its own article. A 9-time Grammy Award winner, including her 2011 Lifetime Achievement award, Parton has been inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame (1986), the Country Music Hall of Fame (1999), the National Academy of Popular Music Songwriters Hall of Fame (2001), has had two of her songs (“Jolene” and “I Will Always Love You“) inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Parton herself has been inducted into 15 different Hall of Fames and received honorary doctorate degree from Carson-Newman College in Tennessee. And this is just a partial list of her accomplishments.

Not bad for a little girl from Sevierville, Tennessee, the fourth of 12 children born to a farmer and construction worker and his wife. The family was so poor that when Dolly was born, her father paid the doctor that delivered her with a sack of oatmeal. The stories of her impoverished childhood would later become the basis for some of her greatest songs, including “Coat of Many Colors” which became an award winning television movie. Dolly began performing in church around age six, by seven she was backing her performances on a homemade guitar.
