It's a brand new year, and the daily spotlight of brand new music returns refreshed and renewed from it's Holiday sabbatical. Today the spotlight falls on a group of buddies who got together in college and decided to form a band later. Now, almost 14 years later, 5 albums and 3 number 1 hits later, they are today's featured artists.

Guitarist/vocalist Mike Eli, guitarist James Young, bassist Jon Jones and drummer Chris Thompson were students at the University of North Texas in Denton, TX when they met. In 1997, Eli and Young were roommates as freshman, and soon after began performing and song writing as the duo Eli & Young. Within a year they were joined by Jones and Thompson and the Eli Young Band was born. The quartet released a self-titled debut album in 2002 on the Independent label Carnival Records, and soon after began touring with Miranda Lambert.

In 2005 the group released Level, their second studio album for the Indy label. Exposure on CMT and GAC helped them build a fan base outside of Texas, which led to tour spots with Pat Green, Robert Earl Keen, and Jack Ingram. A live album followed in 2007 and by 2008, they signed with Universal South Records in 2008. With Universal South, the band released their first top-10 album, Jet Black In Jealous. The album would be certified gold and featured their first top-10 single, "Always The Love Songs".

Because of changes at Universal South, EYB would shift to Republic Nashville in 2011 for their fourth studio album, Life At Best. The project would feature their first 2 #1 hits, "Crazy Girl" and "Even If It Breaks Your Heart". In 2014 they followed up the success of their 2011 album with 10,000 Towns, featuring their third trip to the top of the U.S. charts, "Drunk Last Night", which also hit the #1 spot on the Canadian Country charts.

To tide its ever growing fan base over as they are hard at work preparing their next full length album, the group released the EP Turn It On in 2014. The first single and title track climbed into the top-30 and today the spotlight falls on the second single from the four-song project. The Eli Young Band and "Your Place Or Mine" is the first Catch of the Day for 2016, new music you haven't heard, but you'll want to hear it again.
