The Catch of the Day today comes from a duo that got their name from either the fact that they grew up on opposites sides of a southern state border line from each other, or that they listened to the Blake Shelton song "Ol' Red." Depending on who's story you subscribe to, theirs or mine.

Florida-Georgia Line was formed in 2010 in Nashville, Tennessee. The duo, composed of Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley, both grew up and first gained interest in music through church worship services. Kelley, from Ormond Beach, Florida, was a star pitcher on his high school baseball team, leading to a scholarship at Florida State University; he later transferred to Belmont University after it became clear to him he would not succeed in the sport. He began writing music inspired by Christian rock group Casting Crowns.

Hubbard, a native of Monroe, Georgia, was a church worship leader who formed a hip hop group, Ingenious Circuit throughout his teens. The two had a myriad of musical interests growing up, including Garth Brooks, Alabama, Lil Wayne and Eminem.

Their first studio album, Here's To The Good Times, featured 5 top 5 singles, including 3 #1 hits. The group's first #1, "Cruise" spent an record-setting 23 weeks in the #1 slot from December 22nd, 2012 to January 5th, then regaining the spot on January 19th, 2013. The song fell from the top the next week, but on April 20th it began a third and final run, lasting for 19 weeks, finally falling from the top spot for good on August 24th. The song would top the year end chart for 2013.

Florida-Georgia Line's second album, Anything Goes was released in October of 2014 and has already spawned two #1 singles, "Dirt" and "Sun Daze." The third single from the album, "Sippin' On Fire" is today's Catch of the Day...new music you haven't heard, but you will be hearing it again.
