Today we turn the spotlight to an artist that Taste of Country has called one of their RISER's, new, young artists who are on the rise. An artist that picked up his first guitar at age 15 and started singing, but it wasn't until his junior year in college that he would muster up enough courage take a stage and show the world his talent.

Jacob Davis was raised on country music. Growing up in Shreveport, LA, his first introductions to music came from his mother, who was the piano player at their church. She introduced him, in his words, to everything from Sinatra to Faith Hill. His father, who owned a local furniture company, taught him to play "Folsom Prison Blues" on the guitar. While he loved music, and the escape it gave him, he never serious thought of his own abilities while growing up.

After high school, Jacob was off to college, attending LSU with plans to become a geologist. During his junior year, he attended an open mic night, for the first time seeing an audiences reaction to his talents. He continued on with his education, and his plans of working in the oil industry after college. Davis played the bar & club scene

around Baton Rouge his senior year, receiving a degree in environmental science from LSU. After graduation, he went to work for a gas company, working at a job he knew he hated, all the time, knowing what he really needed to be doing was making music.

After a year in the gas industry, Davis quit his job and moved to Nashville, knowing if he didn't make the move at 23, he would regret it the rest of his life. After knocking on a few doors, Jacob met ASCAP's Robert Filhart, who after hearing a few more songs from Davis, decided to work on getting him a publishing deal, telling the songwriter to simply "go write great songs". Filhart gave himself six months to find Davis a deal, and with a month remaining, Davis signed with Wrensong/Reynsong Music in 2011.
