Today's spotlight falls on an artist who often makes it appear he would rather not have the spotlight fall on him at all.

Jamey Johnson first made headway in country music as a songwriter, writing mega hits for Trace Adkins, George Strait, James Otto and Joe Nichols. After being dropped by  BNA Records, 2006, Johnson rebounded by signing with Mercury Records to produce his first platinum album, 2008's That Lonesome Song, featuring the #1 song of 2008, "In Color" along with the top-20 hit "High Cost of Living".

But Johnson continued to do things his way, waiting until 2010 to release a follow up. He released a two-disc, theme album called The Guitar Song. The double album is a story, with the first disc, The Black Disc being dark and sordid and the second, The White Disc, was about redemption, becoming progressively more positive and upbeat. Johnson has given all the credit for the success of The Guitar Song to Mercury Records who let him have the freedom to create such a unique album. The album peaked at #2 on the Billboard album chart and has been certified gold.

His next project, 2012's Living for a Song: A Tribute to Hank Cochran was a tribute to the late song writer. It did not meet with the same success as his previous two projects, but then again, Johnson didn't expect it to. The 16-track album featured guest vocals from some of the greatest voices in country music history, including Alison Krauss, Vince Gill, Ronnie Dunn and Willie Nelson. The album, a virtual who's-who in country music was received well critically, but has yet to reach the gold certification by the RIAA.

On November 12th of 2014, Johnson gathered with several of country music's biggest names at the Fox Theater in Atlanta for a concert to pay tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd. In an effort to raise money to help restore and save the theater, One More For The Fans: Celebrating The Songs of Lynyrd Skynyrd which also featured Trace Adkins, Randy Houser, Charlie Daniels, John Isbell, Aaron Lewis and more, recreated Skynyrd's 1976 live album One More From The Road, which was recorded at the Fox. From the concert comes a cd and dvd package of the same name, which was released on July 27th.

From the cd and dvd comes today's spotlighted song. Jamey Johnson and "Four Walls of Raiford" is our Catch of the Day, new music you haven't heard, but you'll want to hear it again.
