Today our focus is on a young artist from Georgia who recently signed with Sony Music Nashville after releasing his debut EP on his own, independent label, via a Kickstarter campaign.

Kane Brown is not your normal Country music success story. His early childhood was spent on a farm in rural Georgia, listening to Country music, but as the son of a single mother, he changed schools often as a kid as the family moved frequently. In high school, he finally settled in at Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia where he sang in the choir with future American Idol runner-up Lauren Alaina.

In 2013 Brown auditioned for the talent competition program The X Factor, where he was chosen for the program, but when the producers said they wanted to put him in a boy band, he quit the program. He gained notoriety through Youtube, where he began posting his covers of songs originally recorded Brantley Gilbert, Billy Currington, Alan Jackson, Lee Brice and George Strait. Using both Youtube and Facebook, to build his following, Brown's cover of Strait's "Check Yes Or No" received over 7 millions views after its September, 2015 posting. When he released a clip of his own song, "Used To Love You Sober" on October 8th, 2015, it received over 1 million views in the first three hours.

Brown's debut EP Closer was produced at the home studio of Brantley Gilbert's guitar player Noah Henson. The EP was funded by a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign, debuted at #22 on the Billboard Country Albums chart. The lead single from the project, "Don't Go City On Me", cracked the Digital Top-40 chart, without the benefit of airplay from Country radio. Brown then signed with Sony In January of this year and has been assigned to the RCA Nashville label, where he is being paired with Florida-Georgia Line for their upcoming Dig Your Roots Tour.
