Today's catch of the day comes to us from an artist who literally dropped everything to pursue her country music dreams. And it looks like its starting to pay off for this College Station, Texas native.

Katye Hamlin began her journey into country music singing and playing the piano at age four. But Katye also had a love for sports that, despite a pair of knee surgeries in high school, led her to a softball scholarship, pitching for Rutgers University. But a third and final injury led her to return home and finish her education at the University of Texas in Austin.

Katye's life was changed forever one morning during her senior year in Austin, when she woke up to a broken nose and facial lacerations, the result of blacking out. She was discovered to be suffering from a rare heart condition.

After graduation, Hamlin focused her attention on a broadcast career, be coming a newscaster at a pair of stations in the Dallas area. While in Dallas, Katye learned to play guitar, and that led to her developing her interest in songwriting. Her love of music never left, and with her new-found abilities, she decided to put broadcasting on the back-burner and concentrate full-time on her music career, honing her talent working with artists such as Jack Ingram, Tracy Lawrence and Willie Nelson.
