Today we turn our attention to an artist that is rumored to be running for the US Senate, representing his home state of Michigan. An artist who isn't country, he is isn't rock and he isn't rap, he simply one of the most successful artists of the past 20 years.

Robert James Ritchie is a 5-grammy winning recording artist who has sold more than 35 million albums worldwide since his debut in 1998. And while his given name may soon become a household name in the political world, the rap, rock and country music worlds know Ritchie better by his stage name, Kid Rock.

Kid Rock first came to the music world's attention in 1998. After releasing 5 albums independently, he was signed by Atlantic Records and released his debut major-label singles "Bawitdaba" and "Cowboy" And while the first two singles were immediate smash hits in the rap world, it was Kid's third single,

"God Only Knows Why" would foreshadow his shift from rap to country music, a move he seems to make effortlessly, and one that he has made numerous times in the past 20 years. His debut album, 2000's Devil Without a Cause, featured all three singles, has been certified 11 times platinum by the RIAA.

Kid Rock released seven studio albums and a live album for Atlantic Records between 1998 and 2012. All of them have received platinum (or better) certification, signifying sales of 1 million copies. In 2014 he signed with Warner Brothers Records, releasing the album First Kiss, in 2015. And his singles, why anthematic, haven't charted as well as one would expected for an artist of his renown. Only four of his singles have cracked the top-10 on either the Rock, Country or Pop charts, "Picture", recorded with Sheryl Crow (#2 on the Pop Chart), "So Hott" (#2 on the Rock chart),"Only God Knows Why" (#5 on the rock chart) and "All Summer Long" (#2 on the Pop chart, #4 on the Country Chart).
