Once again it's Thursday (didn't we just have one of these last week?), and as is our tradition, once again we present to you another of Nashville's unsigned or indy label artist. Today its an artist that has been around Music City as a writer for a while now, but now he is starting to make waves as a performer.

It didn't take much to get singer and songwriter Kurt Thomas hooked on performing. After an inspiring performance at his high school graduation, Thomas took $80 and purchased his first guitar from his good friend, Zac Brown. From then on Thomas was hooked and he was on the road to his dream.

After learning to play that $80 guitar, Kurt began playing locally with his friend Zac, eventually feeling confident enough to form Kurt Thomas and the Small Town Band, paying tribute to his small town roots, having grown up in Dahlonega, GA. The band started out playing local functions, but quickly expanded its appearances to cover southern Georgia. Kurt's first big break came when he entered and won Kenny Chesney's Next Big Star Contest, earning him a spot opening for Chesney on his 2008 World Tour. This gave him the opportunity to perform with not only Chesney, but also Brooks and Dunn, Sammy Hagar, Lee Ann Rimes and Gary Alan at Turner Field in Atlanta, GA.

The same year he opened for Chesney, Thomas also entered the 3rd season competition, CMT's Music City Madness. Thomas would win the contest, and his prizes would include an acoustic session on CMT's Unplugged Studio 330 Session and a mentorship from one of his heroes, Randy Travis.

Thomas continues to do what he does best: touring the county in support of acts like Chesney, Darius Rucker, his old friend Zac Brown, Lynyrd Skynyrd and others, while writing for other artists. He has released four studio albums, the latest Give It Hell Tryin', was released earlier this year, and we have the current single from the album in our spotlight today. Kurt Thomas and "Sweet" is today's Unsigned/Indy Artist Thursday Catch of the Day, new music you haven't heard, but you're gonna want to hear it again.
