Today's Unsigned/Indy Artist Thursday features an artist who's trip to Nashville started in a very unlikely place...Singapore. But as the daughter of a career Army man, her trip also included stops in Indonesia, Virginia, Orlando, New Jersey,  St. Louis, Pittsburgh, South Carolina and Los Angeles.

It was that nomadic upbringing that Leslie Cours Mather pays homage to in her debut album Countrified, as way of expressing her feeling of being a country girl growing up in big cities. Along the way of her journey, Mathers began writing at an early age, her first experience was a song she wrote about moving to New Jersey at age 8.

Leslie's musical talent and passion were further honed when she enrolled in Nashville's Vanderbilt University. After leaving Vanderbilt, Mather accepted a position with a local Nashville production house, though she never quit persuing her dream. But as time went a long, the dream began to fade. But a chance meeting between her father and an associate of legendary producer Denny Diante turned things around for Mather. This chance meeting started the ball rolling and led to her debut EP, Countrified.

Showing her influences that range from Patsy Cline to Linda Ronstadt to Bonny Raitt, Leslie's powerhouse voice shines through on every track of the album. Mather slips from one vocal style to the next with the ease and grace of a prima ballerina sliding from a Plie' to a Passe' to a Jete'. Mather often stepped out of her comfort zone while in the production process, only to find it was just another place for her to take her talents. With her incredible voice and song selection, Mather is proving herself to be an up-and-coming voice of empowerment for women of ages.

The second single from Countrified is in our spotlight today. Leslie Cours Mather and "It Was The Whiskey" is the Unsigned/Indy Artist Thursday Catch of the Day, new music you haven't heard, but you'll want to hear it again.
