Born in Charlotte, NC and raised in Asheville, Luke Combs has been leading bands since his childhood. While in high school, Combs split his time between football and music. After high school, Combs attended Appalachian State University, playing his first professional show at the college's Parthenon Cafe. He left college to move to Nashville to pursue his career in 2010.

Combs worked odd jobs, playing music at night and writing in his spare time while pursuing his Nashville dream. In February of 2014, he released his self-produced debut EP, The Way She Rides. Later the same year, a second EP, Can I Get An Outlaw was released. The album's lead single, Combs' first, was released independently early in 2015. The song, and early version of "Hurricane", sold more than 15,000 copies in its first week of release, debuting at #46 on the Billboard Country singles chart. On the success of the single, Combs released his third self-produced independent EP in November of 2015, This One's For You.

With his independent success, Combs came to the attention of Sony Music, who signed the North Carolinian to their subsidiary label Columbia Records Nashville in late 2016. Combs began work on a debut album, which featured a re-worked "Hurricane", which was re-released and served as the lead single for the project. Combs was named to Sounds Like Nashville's "Artists To Watch" 2017 list as the song climbed the Billboard Country Singles chart, hitting #1 on May 27th and spending 2 weeks on the top of the chart. The album, This One's For You, which took it's title from Combs' third EP, was released on June 2.
