Today we turn our focus to an artist that simply has her priorities straight, putting family above Nashville success at every turn. She has limited her tour schedule through out entire career so she could be home to raise her 3 daughters in as "normal" a lifestyle, her husband is her producer and her two brothers play in her band.

Family has always been the priority for Martina McBride, and who can argue with that? Sure, she could have been even a bigger star by touring more, or by being at more industry events, but then, she wouldn't have been Martina. Born and raised Martina Schiff in Sharon , Kansas, a small town about 90 minutes southwest of Wichita, Martina was introduced to country music as a child. She grew up listening to Reba McEntire, Linda Ronstadt, Patsy Cline and other influential female country stars, which led to her joining her family's band, The Schiffters, at 9 years old, as an occasional lead singer, adding keyboards to her responsibilities by her teen years.

During her teen years, Martina's tastes turned more towards rock, and she formed her first band outside the family, The Penetrators. Then in 1987, she moved on from the group, gathering musicians from the Wichita area and forming her second rock band, Lotus. When the group began looking for rehearsal space, Martina would meet a man that would change her life.

The group began renting rehearsal space from local sound engineer John McBride. The two began dating and were married in 1988, moving to Nashville the following year. John joined Garth Brooks' sound crew, later becoming his concert production manager. Martina would travel with John and would work selling concert souvenirs. Brooks was impressed with Martina's spirit and offered her the opening spot on his tour, under one condition...she land a record contract. John, who was also working with Charlie Daniels and Ricky Van Shelton by this time as a producer, took his wife into the studio and put together the demo that led to her signing with RCA Nashville in 1991.

Martina would remain with RCA Nashville for almost two decades, releasing 10 albums on the label, giving rise to 21 top-10 singles and 6 #1 hits. In 2010. she signed with Republic Nashville, but only released one album on the label, 2010's appropriately titles Eleven. The album did garner McBride a 2011 nomination for CMA Female Vocalist of the Year, her 15th in the category, and the 14th consecutive year she received the nomination. The album would produce 4 singles, but only one, the iconic "I'm Gonna Love You Through It" would break the top 20, peaking at #4. The song has since become an anthem for the fight against cancer across the world.

McBride's next project would be the album Everlasting, a collection of timeless R&B classics that included songs that were originally recorded by artists ranging from Aretha Franklin to Otis Redding to Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes. The album, which was released on the Kobalt label, did not release a single to country radio, but still managed to achieve gold certification.

In 2014, Martina received her 17th nomination from the CMA for Female Vocalist of the Year, tying her with Reba McEntire for the most nominations in history for any vocal category. She would follow Reba to Nash Records, signing with the label in 2015. In April, she released her first album for the label, Reckless. The second single  from the album is in our spotlight today. Martina McBride and "Just Around The Corner" is today's Catch of the Day, new music you haven't heard, but you're going to want to hear it again.
