Today's Unsigned/Indy Artist Thursday catch comes from south of the border. The Texas/Oklahoma border.

Matt Caldwell was born and raised just outside Dallas in Nevada, TX, and like many Texas Red Dirt singers, sites George Strait as an early influence on his musical style. Like many young boys from Texas, Matt enjoyed music early, but sports were the main focus of his life. He played baseball, football and basketball year round, becoming the starting quarterback for his high school football team. Caldwell then made a bold move his senior year; he dropped sports completely to concentrate on music.

The band called ‘Texas' Most Wanted,’ starting playing in small bars across Texas. Within a few months the band was getting offers to play in larger clubs and festivals. Matt and his band toured for a few years in Texas before deciding to move to Nashville to focus on song writing. He worked odd jobs during his first few years in Nashville, learning the music business while making a living.

Matt began cutting and installing granite during the day, and writing songs in the evening. During one of his granite installations, Matt met renowned songwriter Monty Holmes. He began writing some with Monty and others including, Wes Hightower, Trent Willmon and Tommy Karlas. Soon, he went from juggling his day job and writing, to receiving his first publishing contract, leaving Matt able to focus solely on writing songs, while never letting go of his desire to begin touring again.
