Morgan Wallen was born and raised in the Appalachian Mountains in Sneedville, TN, about 90 minutes northeast of Knoxville. Wallen's father was a preacher, and as a child, Morgan took piano and violin lessons, though his first love was baseball. Wallen played his way through college, but an injury ended his career at the collegiate level.

The Tennessee native would audition, and qualify for season 6 of The Voice, in 2014, where he would turn the chairs of two coaches: Usher and Shakira, with Wallen chosing Usher to be his coach. After surviving the first Battle Round, he would fall in the second round, but was saved when Adam Levine used his steal to save Wallen. But that second life would be short-lived as he would be eliminated the very next week in the Playoff Round.

After The Voice, Wallen relocated to Nashville, writing album tracks for several artists, as well as A Thousand Horses second single, "Preachin' To The Choir". In 2016 he signed with Big Loud Records, releasing his debut single "The Way I Talk" in September of the same year. The song peaked at #30, serving as the lead single and title track for Wallen's debut EP.
