Today the focus is on a singer who has had success on the country chart, but recently has been a mainstay on the Texas Country and Indy charts. With him, one of the most beautiful and most talented singer/songwriters of a generation.

Pat Green was born in San Antonio, TX and grew up in Waco. Green's father Craven was an Air Force officer and actor, who encouraged and fanned the flames of his son's musical passion. He started his professional career as an 18-year old student at Texas Tech University, playing gigs at local bars and clubs around the Lubbock area. With the financial backing of his parents, Green released, along with producer Lloyd Maines, the father of The Dixie Chicks' Natalie Maines, a series of albums, which he released independently.

Green did not take his music seriously, even though his albums were seeing local success. It wasn't until his stepfather found out how well Pat's "side job" was going and decided to motivate Green by firing him from his day job as a fuel wholesaler to get Pat to pursue his dream. The motivation was just what Green needed, and soon he drew the attention of Willie Nelson, who asked the young singer to join his tour, with his first appearance being at the 1998 edition of Nelson's annual July 4th Picnic. Green picked up a major sponsor for his tours and before anyone knew it, had sold 250,000 copies of his album, without a major label behind him.

Green signed with Universal/Republic Records in 2000, releasing his first major label album Three Days in 2001. The album climbed to number 7 on the charts, with two singles, "Carry On" and the title track landing in the top-20 nationally, very respectable for a debut album. His second album, Wave on Wave, released in 2003 was the break Green was looking for. Featuring his first top-10 hit, the title track, the album peaked at #2 on the Billboard Album chart, beginning a run of 4 straight albums that would peak at that spot.

Along the way, Pat has continued to record his music, his way. He left Universal in 2005, signing with BNA Records for 2006's album Cannonball. In 2012 he signed with Sugar Hill Records for the album Songs We Wish We Had Written II, which was a follow up on his 2001 collaborative album with Cody Morrow. Green has continued to have success on the Texas "Red Dirt" Country Chart, including his most recent album Home, which not only hit #1 on the Texas album chart, but also top the Indy Albums chart last year.

His most recent single is a collaborative effort with one of the best song writers of the past 20 years, an artist who has not only hit #1 on the Country chart, but has also had #1 hits on the Pop and Adult Contemporary charts in the U.S. and across the world, topping charts in 5 different countries. Today's Catch of the Day is Pat Green, featuring Sheryl Crow, with "Right Now", music you haven't heard, but you'll want to hear it again.
