Today we feature a singer and songwriter that spent a good deal of time kicking around Nashville before getting his big break when he signed with Universal South Records in 2008, releasing his debut album. He then shifted to Stoney Creek Records, a subsidiary of Broken Bow Records in 2012 and broke out big.

Randy Houser is a second generation professional musician. Randy taught himself to play guitar at a very young age, and by the age of 10, he was fronting his first band. While attending college at East Central Community College, he would form the band 10 Pound Biscuit, before moving to Nashville 2002. Once arriving in music city, he hit the ground running, meeting songwriters Jamey Johnson and Dallas Davidson early on and the trio would combined to write "Honkytonk Badonkadonk", which would go on to be a top-5 hit for Trace Adkins. Houser would continue to write for other artists, play locally around Nashville and in 2006 he signed with MCA Nashville.

It would be a short-lived relationship with MCA, spawning no albums or singles, and by 2008 he would be released from the contract, signing with Universal South Records. In May of that year his debut single, "Anything Goes" would be released, serving as the title track for his debut album. In August, late-night talk show host David Letterman heard the single on satellite radio, and Houser would be asked to make his national television debut on Letterman's show. Houser's appearance would coincide with the song cracking the top-40, and the release of the album. The song would peak at #16 and would lead the way for the follow-up single "Boots On", which would become Houser's first top-10 hit, peaking at #2.

Houser's second album would prove to be less successful, ultimately leading to his departure from Universal. They Call Me Cadillac, released in September of 2010 would feature two singles that failed to crack the top-50 and at the same time, two more singles not attached to the album also failed to make it higher than #49 on the country charts. By the end of 2011, Houser left the Universal affiliated label Show Dog Records and singed with Stoney Creek Records, a subsidiary of Broken Bow records, and began work on a third album.

As the lead single for the album, How Country Feels, the title track was released in May of 2012. The song would be the perfect lead for the album, becoming Houser's first #1 hit. The second single "Runnin' Out of Moonlight" would be released in March of 2013, which followed the release of the album in January. The album would go on to achieve gold certification, while the first two singles would hit #1 and be certified platinum. Two more singles would be released from the album, "Goodnight Kiss" would peak at #2, while "Like A Cowboy" would become the album's third #1 hit. Both singles would be certified gold.

Houser's fourth album, Fired Up, was released in March, and features Houser's fourth #1 single, "We Went". The latest single from the album is in our spotlight today. Randy Houser and "Chasing Down A Good Time" is today's Catch of the Day, new music you haven't heard, but you'll want to hear it again.
