Today we feature a band from San Marcos, TX, whose early influences are as much classic country as they are alternative rock.

Randy Rogers was born and raised in Cleburne, TX, about 30 miles south of Ft. Worth. Music was an important part of Rogers' life, as he learned to play piano from his grandmother by the age of 6. He then learned to play guitar, and by age 11 Rogers had begun writing his own songs. Rogers spent time during his teen years playing in other people's bands, and by the time he was in college, he and some friends, formed the Randy Rogers Band.

The band hit it off so well, that shortly after they began practicing together in 2000, they released their first album, Live at Cheatham Street Warehouse, recorded in San Marcos at the bar the album drew its name from. In 2002, the group released their first studio album, Like It Used To Be on the indy label Downtime Records, with little response from country radio.

By 2004 the Randy Rogers Band solidified their line-up, which has stayed together to this day. Rogers on vocals, along with Geoffrey Hill (guitar), Jon Richardson (bass), Brady Black (fiddle), and Les Lawless (drums) moved on to Smith Records and released the album Rollercoaster. Three singles from the album failed to crack the top 40 on the Billboard Country chart, but the began to make some head way, charting on the Texas music charts. They followed Rollercoaster in 2005 with Live at Billy Bob's Texas, which made an appearance on the Country albums charts, peaking at #62.
