Today's catch of the day comes from a trio who came together in Nashville, though two of their founding members are from Columbus, Ohio. The group has released nine studio albums, seven of which have been certified platinum or better, while the two remaining have gone gold.

In 1998, second-cousins Gary LeVox and Jay DeMarcus, were working as part of the house band at a Nashville nightclub, when their part-time guitarist could not make it one night. So DeMarcus, who had also been working as part of singer Chely Wright's band, called the other guitarist from that band, Joe Don Rooney to sit in. Roonery accepted, and Rascal Flatts was born.

The trio was recommended to producers Mark Bright and Marty Williams, who in turn recommended them to Lyric Street Records' Doug Howard with a three song demo. Howard was immediately taken by the trio, signing them to to Lyric Street in 1999. They debuted in early 2000 with the single "Prayin' For Daylight", a song that was actually on the demo that had so thoroughly impressed Howard. The song, the lead single off of their self-titled debut album peaked at #3 on the charts, and Rascal Flatts was on their way.

The group would go on to release 6 albums with Lyric Street before the label was closed by Disney in 2010. Those albums included the 5x platinum Feels Like Today, 4x platinum Me and My Gang and the 3x platinum Melt.

The six albums featured 25 singles, 23 top-10 hits and 10 #1's. During their time with Lyric Street, no Rascal Flatts single would fail to crack the top-15 on the country charts. The only two "blemishes" on that resume were "Bob That Head" and "Why", which both peaked at #15.

After Lyric Street closed its doors in April of 2010, the Flatts weren't looking for a home for long, signing with Big Machine Records in July. Their first album with Big Machine, Nothing Like This would also reach platinum certification, the groups seventh in a row. Two more albums for Big Machine followed, 2012's Changed and 2014's Rewind. These three albums would feature 9 more singles, 6 of which hit the top-10. Nothing Like This would feature two more #1 hits, "Why Wait" and "Banjo".

Today, we spotlight the latest single from the trio, the fourth single from Rewind. Rascal Flatts and "I Like The Sound Of That" is today's Catch of the Day, new music you haven't heard, but you'll want to hear it again.
