Today the spotlight falls on a young singer and songwriter who appeared on season 10 of American Idol, and who hails from an area you wouldn't normally consider to be a hotbed of country music.

Sammy Arriaga made the move to Nashville in 2010 at the ripe old age of 18, but was no stranger to the music industry. Arriaga discovered his passion for singing at age 14, then taught himself to play guitar. After discovering country music and feeling a natural pull, Arriaga put Nashville into his GPS and made the 1000 mile trip.

Arriaga made the American Idol trip to Hollywood on a "golden ticket", but that dream just wasn't in the cards, as he failed to make it into the top 24. Undeterred, he immediately headed back to Nashville to pursue his dream the old fashioned way: with hard work. Since landing in Music City, Arriaga has toured with and opened for acts like Love & Theft, Cassadee Pope, Chase Rice and Trace Adkins. Combining elements of several music styles, Arriaga brings a unique sound to country music, filling a void that many didn't know existed. Arriaga has definitely made a space for himself.

Arriaga is the studio working on his first album, and today we are featuring his debut single. Sammy Arriaga and "Cold In Miami" is today's Catch of the Day, new music you haven't heard, but you'll want to hear it again.
