Today our focus falls on a second generation singer/songwriter, who got his first break in country music playing drums in Rhett Aikins' band.

While in junior high school, Thomas Rhett Aikins Jr. learned to play drums and would join his singer/songwriter on stage, playing in his back-up band. After he entered high school the younger Aikins formed his own band, The High Heeled Flip Flops, playing local parties and venues. He went onto Lipscomb University in Nashville, but the only career he had on his mind was playing music.

In 2010, now using his stage name Thomas Rhett, he would co-write the song "I Ain't Ready To Quit", which would appear on Jason Aldean's album My Kinda Party. The song led to Rhett signing a recording contract with Big Machine Records in 2011. In 2012 he released his debut single "Something to Do With My Hands" followed later in the year by "Beer With Jesus".

Both singles cracked the top-30, but it wasn't until his third single, "It Goes Like This" hit number 1 that people sat up and began to take notice of this second generation star. The song would serve as the title track for his debut album, released in October of 2013. The album would feature two more #1 hits, "Get Me Some of That" and "Make Me Wanna" and has been certified Gold by the RIAA.

Rhett would keep the streak of chart toppers going with the lead single from his soon to be released second album Tangled Up. "Crash and Burn" became the fourth straight number 1 hit for Thomas, and like his previous three single would be certified gold. Today, our spotlight falls on the second single from the album, which will be released this Friday. Thomas Rhett and "Die a Happy Man" is today's Catch of the Day, new music you haven't heard, but you'll want to hear it again.
