Today our focus is on an artist who couldn't help but gravitate towards country music as he grew up with artists like Tim McGraw and Brooks & Dunn in the house. Not the music, the artists themselves, as he is a second generation country star the son of

singer and songwriter Rhett Aikens.

Thomas Rhett Aikens, Jr., aka Thomas Rhett grew up around the county stars he idolized. Tim McGraw was a big one for Rhett, but he found he was influenced by a lot of the musicians his dad introduced him to. Thomas started playing the drums while in junior high, and by age 14, he had gotten good enough to start joining his dad's band onstage. He put his own band together in high school, and despite his parents wishes, he really had no career goal other than music after high school. He did attend Libscomb University in Nashville, studying Communications, because as he says, his friends were all in college and he didn't know what else to do.

Rhett left school after a couple of years to concentrate on music, and it didn't take long for him to score a publishing contract in 2009. By early 2010, Rhett had landed the song "I Ain't Ready To Quit" on Jason Aldean's album My Kinda Party. Soon after he signed with Big Machine's Valory subsidiary label, but continued writing, scoring "1994" for Aldean, "Parking Lot Party" for Lee Brice and "Round Here" for Florida Georgia Line.

2012 saw the release of Rhett's debut album It Goes Like This. The album featured 5 top-30 singles, including 3 #1 hits. Rhett would follow it up with Tangled Up in 2015 (and a deluxe re-release in 2016) which featured 5 more top-30 singles, 4 of which were #1 hits. The single "Die A Happy Man" would receive both the ACM and CMA Single of the Year awards for 2015. 8 of his last nine single have reached #1, as his most recent,
