Today we feature and artist who first came to national attention while still in high school, by reaching the finals of the Nashville Network's You Can Be A Star. An artist who took over 10 years between the release of his debut album in 2006 and his second album in 2016.

Between his 2nd place appearance on You Can Be A Star in the early 90's and releasing his 2005 debut album Country Is My Rock, Trent Tomlinson signed three record deals that were cut short due to labels either going bankrupt, or who restructured during label mergers. Tomlinson always seemed to be the odd man out, but after signing a songwriting deal with Cal IV Entertainment, his music was recorded by several artists, including Emerson Drive, who included Tomlinson's "Evidence" on their self-titled, debut album. He also contributed songs to Sara Evan's 2005 album Real Fine Place and George Strait's 2006 album It Just Comes Natural.

In 2004, Tomlinson recorded a couple singles for Lyric Street records, which led to them signing him to a record contract, releasing the debut single "Drunker Than Me" in early 2005. The single, which would serve as the lead for the debut album, peaked at #19 on the U.S. Country Singles chart. Two more singles from the album, "One Wing In The Fire" and "Just Might Have The Radio On" both cracked the top-20.

After the success of Tomlinson's debut, in 2008 Lyric Street Records announced they were him to their new subsidary label, Carolwood Records, the second artist to sign with the label. In 2009, the EP A Guy Like Me was released, featuring the lead single "That's How It Still Oughta Be", which peaked at #34. Soon after the release of the single and the EP, Carolwood closed and Tomlinson's contract was returned to Lyric Street, who did little to support the EP or any of its singles. In March of 2010 the singer and the label parted ways.

In 2011, Tomlinson signed with the independent label Skyville Records, releasing the single "A Man Without A Woman", which failed to crack the top-50. The single was intended as the lead for a new album, entitled When I Get On A Roll, but after the single failed to climb the charts, the album was scrapped. Soon after, Skyville scaled back its production, leaving Trent without a record deal once again.

In the meantime, he kept writing for not only that new album, but also for other artists, including Parmalee, who would hit #4 in 2014 with the Tomlinson co-authored single "Close Your Eyes". It wouldn't be until this month that Tomlinson's sophomore album would finally be released by Mucho Love Music, entitled That's What's Working Right Now.

The lead single from that album is in our spotlight today. Trent Tomlinson and "When She Goes There" is today's Catch of the Day, new music you haven't heard, but you'll want to hear it again.
