Today we feature one of our own, a singer, songwriter and guitarist from Norman, OK, who once turned down an opportunity to create a guitar "super-group" to go it alone. An artist who first came to attention as a member of a pop/rock group, but who has made his mark in many aspects of country music, including blue grass, swing and popular country.

Vince Gill is an artist whose influence make country music what it is today, and as a person, he is what you hope every performer will be. In 1975, After graduating from North Classen High School in Norman, OK, where he performed with the bluegrass group Mountain Smoke, Vince moved to Nashville to join the group Bluegrass Alliance. After a short period, he joined Ricky Skaggs' Boone Creek. Before long, Gill headed off to Los Angeles and joined another blue grass group, Sundance.

1979 saw Gill joining Pure Prairie League as a guitarist and lead singer, recording three albums with the group, providing vocals for the top-10 hit "Let Me Love You Tonight". At the time, Mark Knopfler of the rock-group Dire Straights invited to Gill to join the group Dire Straights, which would have united two of the best guitar players in music in a "super group"; Gill declined (Gill would unite with Knopfler and the band years later, singing back-ground vocals for the 1991 album On Every Street). In 1981 Gill once again moved on, returning to blue grass as part of Rodney Crowell's backing band the Cherry Bombs (later The Fabulous Cherry Bombs). In 1983, Vince went all in, going solo and releasing his debut EP Turn Me Loose, in 1984.

Gill has released studio 15 albums and two Christmas albums in his career, choosing quality over quantity. He has charted 28 top-10 hits, with 4 of those reaching the #1 spot. Lately, Vince has appeared on many other artists' project, either as a guitarist or singing back-up (or in some instances, both). In the past 5-years, Gill has appeared with Kelly Clarkson, Daughtry, Chris Young, B.J. Thomas, Eddie Money and T. Graham Brown to name just a few of the artists he has worked with. In 2011, he appeared with the British rock group The Moody Blues on a bluegrass project called Moody Bluegrass Two...Much Love.

Gill's latest album, Down To My Last Bad Habit was released in February, and is well on its way to becoming his 14th gold (or better) certified album, with close to 100,000 copies sold to this date. The second single from the album is in our spotlight today. Vince Gill and "Me and My Girl" is today's Catch of the Day, new music you haven't heard, but you'll want to hear it again.
