We turn our focus today to a singer and songwriter who is coming to Nashville notoriety a little later in life than most up-and-comers. But he has been in Nashville for over 10 years, landing songs on albums by Colt Ford, Rodney Atkins among others.

Born and raised in Mobile, Alabama, Walker Hayes was your standard all-American kid, with basketball, track and piano his passions. Piano would change from a hobby to a primary pursuit when he earned a music scholarship, and eventually a degree from Birmingham-Southern College, finishing his degree at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.

Walker discovered his passion for songwriting after college and after writing a few songs, decided to move to Nashville to go all in on a music career. Within a year he signed with Capitol Records Nashville, and in 2011 released Reason to Rhyme, a

record that the label said was what the people wanted. The project bore two to-40 singles, but, apparently Capitol misjudged the public's demand, and after the label was part of a merger, Hayes was released from his contract.

With no label to tell him "what the people wanted", Hayes was free to work on developing his own style and sound. He released the single "Pimpin' Joy" in 2014, and quickly signed with RareSpark Media Group Publishing and began recording demos of his songs, some of which caught the attention of producer Shane McAnally, who signed him to a publishing and production deal in 2016, releasing a pair of EP's. 8Tracks Vol 1 & 2 and then to a deal with Monument Records in January of
