Just when judges were beginning to believe 18-year-old country cutie Skylar Laine could win ‘American Idol,’ viewers sent her home. The Brandon, Miss. native was eliminated on Thursday night, receiving the fewest votes of the remaining five contestants.
Blake Shelton couldn’t choose between the two contestants left on Team Blake. Fortunately for him, he didn’t have to. On Tuesday night (May 1), America chose Jermaine Paul to be the lone representative from the country coach’s team when the show begins its final descent next week.
Country music has been a happy home for a number of ‘American Idol’ contestants, including two winners — three if you count Kelly Clarkson, who just recently decided to try her luck in the genre. Since their time on the show, the singers have grown up considerably. Even Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina — who are just one year removed from the FOX reality series — look different than they did when fans met them in 2011.
Wednesday night (April 11) marked the night of the Top 7 on ‘American Idol,’ and first up to the stage was country crowd-pleaser Skylar Laine with Kellie Pickler’s hit Didn’t You Know How Much I Loved You.’
‘American Idol‘ Season 10 winner Scotty McCreery returned to the stage tonight (March 29) to perform his twangy, uptempo single ‘Water Tower Town.’ It feels like only yesterday that the singer was competing in the thick of the competition each and every week. Now, with a hit record and hard-earned status as a country superstar, McCreery really has grown by leaps and bounds in the space of a year.
If anyone understands what it’s like to be under the intense heat of the ‘American Idol‘ spotlights and the critical eye of the show’s judges, it’s Carrie Underwood. The Season 4 ‘Idol’ winner apparently hasn’t forgotten the pressure that comes from taking that stage under the scrutiny of fans and judges alike, and she took the time to reach out to 18-year-old British-born Hollie Cavanagh, the tiny talent with a huge voice who’s currently vying to be the next American Idol.
Tuesday nights bring doom for the ‘Dancing with the Stars’ contestants, because one has to turn in their sequins and watch the rest of the competition from home (or at least from a chair in the audience). Who was this season’s first casualty?
After last week’s revelation that none of this season’s performers on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ are mock-worthy, about all we can do now is cheer for our favorites (or, for the snarkier among us, at least hope someone has an off-week).
In preparation for tonight’s premiere of ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ Jaleel “Urkel” White, Gladys Knight, William Levy, and the rest of the contestants have been seriously breaking a sweat in preparation for their first performances.
